Mabel is having Puppies next week
We are very excited to let you know that Mabel my mini labradoodle is having 6 puppies in a weeks time. So to celebrate with everyone who has met mummy Mabel and aunty Isla on the farm we are having a competition to win one of our alpaca walk gift vouchers for a couple or a family. All you need to do is guess how many boys and how many girls Mabel is having and email jacki@beaconalpacas.co.uk with your answer. The correct ones will be placed in a hat and the winner will be drawn out once the puppies have been born. Good luck, news and pictures of Mabel’s puppies will be posted on the website.
Shearing
Shearing has been completed for another year and the alpacas are very pleased the weather has warmed up and are spending their days sunbathing and evenings sheltering in the barn. We are in the process of sorting out all the fleece for spinning and for sale so any hand spinners and felters out there who would like some of our wonderful alpaca fleece get in touch.
Cria are due in June and July we have 9 pregnant females on the farm this summer so we are keeping everything crossed for lots of healthy babies here this summer. If you would like to book a walk or a visit to come and see all the babies here this summer here is your discount code giving you a 10% discount off all your alpaca walks, visits and gift vouchers cosmo10
Spring is up on us, please could someone tell the weather! Alpacas don’t mind cold weather but wind and rain is their least favourite and ours for alpaca walks. We do offer everyone booked on our alpaca walks the option of rescheduling if its very wet on the day you have booked your alpaca experience, just get in touch to let me know. Mothers day is fast approaching and what could be a better than and alpaca for mothers day. We still have spaces on Sunday 10th March and I email gift vouchers so you can print a gift card which is valid for a year.
New Pedestrian Area This Spring we have plans to improve the yard and driveway here at Beacon Farm so we can welcome more people with wheelchairs and those with extra mobility needs. Most of our alpacas are so laid back they accept being walked by a wheelchair user or partially sighted individual so we are levelling and resurfacing the yard, creating a pedestrian only area and some disabled parking spaces.
Volunteer help Wanted I planted a very long, 1700 trees, new hedge in January and couldn’t have done it without help from local volunteers, I just hope it grows. We aim to open the farm most afternoons for farmyard visits in Spring for everyone and encouraging people with extra needs. We would love your help if anyone has a regular spare afternoon or day to volunteer to help out with caring for our alpacas and carrying out husbandry duties. Help would also be most welcome from anyone with interested in planting and growing making nest boxes and insect hotel and people with skills in repairs, diy and painting. Please get in touch with Jacki if you would like to be a Beacon Alpaca Volunteer. Free drinks and alpaca hugs while you are here. Testamonial from Volunteer Lisa Flesher: What do I enjoy most about volunteering with Jacki and her fabulous herd of alpacas?…..
Absolutely everything, I wake up with a smile on my face,a spring in my step, and can’t wait to get to the farm to have a cuddle with the alpacas, it’s my happy place.
Testamonial from Volunteer Lisa: “From the moment I arrive I feel a sense of well being and at one with nature. The day flies by as there’s always so much to do to help Jacki look after the farm, whether it be feeding the animals, cleaning out the barns, training the young alpacas or enjoying meeting the customers, providing support on the walks and getting exercise in the stunning Yorkshire countryside.
It’s life enriching and a privilege volunteering, which I’d thoroughly recommend”
- Morning Alpaca WalksWe are now offering shorter alpaca walks around the farm aimed at people with young children and those would find the longer walk a challenge. Starting at 10.30 am we can tailor the experience to suit your requirements.
