What happens on our experience?
When you arrive you’ll meet the alpacas that you are going to walk with and be given a briefing. There are ample opportunities for photos along the way and you will see the rest of the alpaca herd and other animals we have one the farm. We’ll tell you about alpacas as we walk; where they are from, what they eat, about their fleece and how they are farmed. The views on a clear day are stunning and you can see the White Horse at Kilburn and the Vale of York.
Physical activity:
The farm is on a gentle slope and we walk over grassy tracks and paths. The walk up to the farm is a gentle slope and start of the walk is up a small hill and the rest is level or down hill on grass paths. We have limited parking near the yard for people with mobility issues and wheelchair access. The pace is quite slow, as alpacas like to look round and take in their surroundings. Children can take part, any age on the morning experience, with 7 year olds and over on the afternoon experience. Children must be accompanied by a fee paying adult to share leading their alpaca.
Clothing and Equipment:
Waterproof footwear advised as the grass can be wet, sandals are not suitable. On cold days gloves, scarves and hats are must. The farm is quite high on the Hambleton Hills and you will walking in the countryside were the terrain can be uneven and the grass wet, some areas can be a bit muddy in wet weather.
Weather:
We will take the alpacas out in light rain but offer you the chance to re-schedule and will message you to postpone if the forecast is for wet and windy weather. Please call for advice before you leave if in doubt and you’d like postpone for a better day.
How many people and alpacas will there be on my walk?
Alpacas are herd animals and so we walk with a minimum of 2 alpacas and a maximum of 12, so you can choose to share an alpaca between two adults or lead one on your own. If you would like to accompany the walk without leading an alpaca book a spectator place. Children under 16 must be accompanied by a fee paying adult.
